How
it began: This idea was manifested by a desire to honor my
94-year old grandmother, Virginia “Ninnie” Steinbeck.
Here we are in a picture taken a couple of years ago in
her room at the nursing home. Since this picture was taken,
she has continued to struggle with remembering who we are at
times, where she is, why she cannot get her brain to work,
why the words she wants to express just don’t come out,
thinking she’s going somewhere so she packs up everything,
and gets frustrated when we can’t tell her “why.”
I Googled Arkansas & Alzheimer’s one day and happened to
click on the website for Alzheimer’s Arkansas. I made an
appointment to meet the Director of Development, Janet, one
day to learn more about them. As “luck” would have it, I
stumbled on to THE BEST group of people! Their organization
is an independent, non-profit group who keeps 100% of money
raised to support care-givers of those suffering from
various forms of dementia all across the state by providing
a wide range of programs and services. Just what my family
could have used years ago had we known they were available
to us. So I HAD to do something!
I wanted to form a group of like-minded people who wanted
to help and support those affected by this awful condition.
So, the birth of Memory Keepers! You can see more at
www.supportmemorykeepers.com.
Then, I asked my friend David one day if his band might
consider playing for a party. Maybe we could have a few
friends gather some place locally and raise some money for
this awesome group. Well, a few text messages were sent out,
calls were made, questions were asked, and leg-work began.
AMP OUT ALZ a Rock & Roll Event was born!
Peace & Blessings to you,

AMP OUT ALZ was a great success all around
and we couldn’t have done it without the generous
contributions made by each one of you – whether it was your
time, energy, financial resources, networking, or special
skill set – you helped make it happen and I’m personally
very grateful to have had your support! I estimate
about 250 attended the event in person and we cleared
$10,230 in the process. 100% of this money will be
re-invested in Arkansas through the awesome programs and
services provided by Alzheimer’s Arkansas.
