Volunteer

Volunteers are a key part of accomplishing the mission of Alzheimer's Arkansas.

VOLUNTEERING IS GOOD FOR YOU. Last year, Alzheimer’s Arkansas volunteers donated over 4300 hours to help us with programs and services. That certainly helps Alzheimer’s Arkansas – we couldn’t do all tat we do without volunteers. But did you know that this donation of time and expertise is good for the volunteer? Here are some of the things you might get in return for your giving:
  • Making new friends
  • Gaining important skills and experience that will help you later in life
  • Seeing more of your community and world
  • Feeling needed and important
  • Feeling the satisfaction of helping others
  • Using your mind, body and creativity
  • Relieving stress and fighting boredom
  • Spending time doing what you really care about
  • Having fun!

How can you become a volunteer?

Call the Alzheimer's Arkansas office at 501-224-0021 and ask for a volunteer sign-up form or download (PDF) the volunteer application here.  Fill it out, return it, and expect a call.  And, THANKS!

What do volunteers do?

All members of the Board of Directors and its committees are volunteers.  These members of the community work closely together and with the staff to plan and implement the activities of Alzheimer's Arkansas in the community.

Volunteers also work in the office, helping with tasks such as preparing bulk mail, filing and copying, inputting data, writing thank you notes or hand addressing invitations, organizing brochures and the like.

Volunteers answer the 24-hour Care Phone offering support and information to family caregivers and others who call.  Special training is provided for the volunteers.

Volunteers facilitate caregiver support groups throughout the state. A day-long training is provided to facilitators. Volunteers assist with office work such as bulk mailings, filing, making packets, stamping materials, and data entry.

Finally, volunteers are a big part of any special event we do, such as the annual symposium and the Walks, Art to Remember .

Thousands of volunteer hours each year help Alzheimer's Arkansas fulfill its mission.

Alzheimer's Arkansas Auxiliary

The Alzheimer's Arkansas Auxiliary is an organized group of volunteers whose sole purpose is to assist and support Alzheimer's Arkansas Programs and Services activities.  Members of the Auxiliary bring talents from a wide variety of backgrounds.  Many have first hand knowledge of the challenges associated with Alzheimer's because we have already lost a friend or family member to the disease, or are still caring for a loved one. Auxiliary members assist with programs such as the Early Stage Patient/ Caregiver Support Group meetings and the bi-annual Early Stage Brunch.  Members also help with the annual Walks and sponsor the annual Art to Remember dinner and auction.

Membership in the Auxiliary is $35.00 per year (which includes membership in Alzheimer’s Arkansas).  Call the office to find our more about joining the Auxiliary.
