Support Groups and Contact Persons Throughout Arkansas

Alzheimer’s Arkansas will hold a Support Group Facilitator Training on October 3rd. If you are interested in starting a support group, being a facilitator or co-facilitator, this training is for you. The training is at the Alzheimer’s Arkansas office starting at 9:00 a.m. and ending about 4:00 p.m. Lunch is provided and there is no fee charged. The training is required if your group is to be affiliated with Alzheimer’s Arkansas. Due to limited space, registration is required and the deadline to register is Sept. 25. Early Stage Alzheimer Patient/Caregiver Group – October 6th through November 3rd, 2008. For the past six years we have offered two sets of five-week support group sessions each year for early stage patients and their families providing them with the opportunity to talk with other patients and caregivers, to search for ways to compensate for failing memory and communication, to learn more about current research and medications and to plan for legal and financial matters. We will be offering a special format that enables this particular population of patients and their loved ones to come together and share support and information. We will invite guest speakers to share their expertise on issues of concern and we will also spend time in two smaller groups to allow for separate support/discussion time for the caregivers and the patients. Our first meeting is Monday, October 6th. from 9:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The two-hour meetings will continue through November 3rd. The meetings will take place at Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, 10900 Rodney Parham Rd. Parking is available next to the building.

Maumelle Senior Wellness Center will host a new Alzheimer’s Arkansas Support Group on Thursday morning beginning October 14, 2008 at 10:00 am. The purpose of this group is to provide opportunities to caregivers to share information, to give and receive support and to learn caregiving techniques. The group is open to all, but especially to those who are caring for someone who has Alzheimer’s disease or another type of dementia. The group will continue meeting on the second Tuesday of each month at the Maumelle Senior Wellness Center.
